Everything about this ePortfolio experience was new to me. I didn’t have much experience with doing an ePortfolio until this class. What I learned from this is how to create a Wix site. Before doing this project, I wasn’t aware of how to create a Wix site and how to use its functions. However, using it throughout the semester made me more comfortable with creating a site and using its features. I also learned how to add attachments to my ePortfolio on the site. I had a hard time at first understanding how to do it, but after having to do it a few times, I’ve gotten a grasp on it. Another thing I learned is that I can keep this ePortfolio and use it as a resume or proof of my experience as a Communications major.
As mentioned before, this ePortfolio will be used as a resume. It will help me in the future with getting a job as it has proof of my experience. It could also help me with keeping track of my projects/papers as a Communications major. If I ever need to look back at something and check to see what I’ve done in my years at ODU, then this ePortfolio will help. I could add to it by adding projects from future Communications courses. If I get a job or an internship, I can add those to it in my “About me” section of the site to make my ePortfolio more appealing. I could also add my Communications courses that I’m going to take in the future to the resume portion.
My main project experience in this COMM302 class was okay. I had a nice time researching code-switching and its impacts on minorities socially. It was a topic that I’ve always wanted to look into and this class provided me the opportunity to do so. However what I wish I did differently was find a better topic or a better way of describing the topic as I had a hard time finding relevant information on code-switching with the research question I used. I also wished that I set aside more time to work on the project as I would have been able to find better and more thorough information on the topic. Despite this though, I am satisfied with my results on the project and how it was conducted. These complaints are minor. The most valuable thing about the project was getting experience on how to write a research paper. It seemed complicated at first, but I managed to complete it successfully. There’s no doubt in my mind that I am going to have to write more research papers in the future, so this project gave me an idea of what that’s like. I hope to improve on this in the future through gaining more experience on doing projects such as this one.
